Tough day
« on: February 17, 2016, 08:18:53 pm »
My shop got flooded sometime overnight. I had 3" of water in my entire factory this morning. Folks I've taken a very large loss here, one that my current insurance policy may not even cover in full it's so big. Estimate this at around 1000 gallons of water. 3.5 hours & 29 empties of a 12 gallon shop vac along with a sump pump rated at 600gph running I got it down to puddles.

There are thousands and thousands of lures that were under water or got affected by the wicking action of wood v water. Every single bin of lure bodies in the shop will need to be discarded. I've lost a years supply of pine alone.  Alot of cedar got wet. Even lifts of lumber on pallets got damaged because the pallets wicked the water right up into the wood stored above. Just dripping wet.

I cleaned it up while the landlord went to lunch. 7 hours today probably slowed some of the extent of the damage but hopefully will see the adjuster tomorrow. I don't even know where to begin to put a value on this.

First dad now this. wtf next.  :(

First and foremost, prayers for you and yours.

Next, let us know if or how any of us can help.

Lastly, IF and WHEN you get time, keep us apprised as to how the cleanup / recovery is going, and let us know if we need to be on the look out for anything to get you up to full speed again.

Tnx nothing can be done now. Meeting with adjuster in the morning and an inventory specialist will be coming in from the insurance co. Put a large humidifier in there today along with keeping the heat around 80 right now. 2 large fans moving air. There is still much standing water in there it's coming back out of everything now. I was keeping the doors open every 1/2 hour with a large fan running trying to exhaust some of the moisture outside.

I had one planer submerged as it was stored on the floor due to weight. One cnc machine lost some cabling as it was sitting under the machine and all the connectors got drowned. All work in progress in the shop is destroyed. Just the top layer of each bin is salvageable. I had a 40lb box of pigment get soaked.

Theres all kinds of stuff mixed across the floor now, rodent poison got mixed with the water, machine oils yeck. The place was floating.

Cleaning up after floods is such an awful mess.  I have did so before, and it takes forever for things to dry out.  It makes one paranoid afterwards, I don't let anything touch the floor in my basement that might flood for some reason.  Of course, one doesn't ever know if and when the water comes, how high it will reach.

Hopefully the insurance adjuster will do right by you, but you still have all that work that is ruined and greatly diminished inventory.

What kind of cabling was ruined?

Adjuster came this morning. Tomorrow a salvage company will be onsite. Dehumidifier running is pulling lots of moisture out but there's still standing water in some areas. Heat is on 85 to try and dry it out faster. Just hope it doesn't cause mold to grow faster.

Landlord has no insurance I'm told. Also told he's refused access to the side of the building to the insurance company to take pictures.

We'll be moving soon. Done with this azzholio. Doesn't give a crap in the world.

I don't know why people like your landlord have to be the way they are.  It would be fitting if his next tenant would be two steps below him in (lack of) business ethics and always behind in his rent. :P

Is there any saving of the plugs that are in process?  I know the insurance / salvage guys have the last say, but it is disheartening to think of all your work going down the drain.

All of the bins I've used for 16 years are recycling bins. They have holes in the bottom which allowed the water into each one sitting on the floor. Once the inside got wet it all wicked up through the bins and wet everything else. It's all gone. The problem with trying to save a few pieces now is the setup time to finish 10-20 lures in each bin. It's alot of wasted time because now the time cost into each one is huge. Will be having this discussion with the salvage company today. I think they're just going to deep six all that stuff that was on the floor.

The landlord won't have any more tenants because from what I hear soon the bank be the landlord. I won't be posting anymore about this except for cleanup efforts. At this point the salvage company is holding the direction where this goes.

Salvage Company was onsite yesterday we went through what was damaged. Still finding pockets of water under things and place is just beginning to dry out. Left dehumidifier running. With the doors open all day yesterday and fans going it's starting to dry out.

Lost all the booth pictures so just going to be racks at Risaa this year and a little dinky plastic sign. The accelerator pedal for the tail machine is fried. 5/0 white tail hooks are on backorder immediately so I have enough for myself. I've sourced a new pedal but will be a week before it's here. The Delta planer was the only machine loss thank God.

Lost an entire bin of 2.5 surfsters. Had several bins that had holes or cracks in them that held kits and stuff got soaked. The kit bags evidently breathe because there were 20-30 on the bottom that had physical water pour out of them. The rest in the bin had condensation inside the bags.

I brought a 1/2 bin of white deer tails home yesterday and spread out on the deck. Sopping wet. Another bin that had a hole in the bottom. Do you know what deer ass smells like when water resolvinates the skin that had dried? Floppy tails they got. If they don't dry out there will be another 2-300 pieces of deer tail added to this.  :fart:

There was some inside the bin in bags and those were all good so at least I got something to get going again as soon as I can fix the machine. Sucks on the 5/0 those are one of the most popular and will be none for Risaa now. It was the only size I was low on.

Here's hoping most of this is in your rearview mirror now, so to speak.
