Securing fish scale netting?

What's the best way to secure scale netting to a lure for painting? I've had some luck using twist ties, but sometimes the over-spray leaves a hole in the base color and won't blend well. Taping leaves  too straight a an edge. Suggestions?

well ive used closepins.......pull your scale material tight and work your way down the plug......then put the closepins on a piece of card board.....the pins make the plug stand upright and on a seprate piece of material you can spin the plug around and do the other side..........i dont do scales anymore........i just like white pearl bodys...and highlite with colors........good luck

Staples Binder Clips work well also and are available in some real small sizes.

Yup clothes pins, and binder clips work well. In a pinch, netting material stretched out in a needle point hoop works well too.
