Here's some stuff received this week.
SWEET job
-
I'M IN
-
SOME MORE
WOW
-
If this works this will be a picture of one of Salty's popper kits
-
Here are two of the 1.5 oz Surfsters, I modified the yellow one to a single set of treble hooks, the black and purple one was my second kit
-
last one for today this is the 2.5 oz Surfster kit
-
nice paint!
-
tksurf those are very nice! this is one of the reasons I started this forum. Different ideas for others.
Any idea how the surfster swims with the one hook? I'm sure it swims real nice those lips will swim just about anything.
Your scales look awesome. I'm going to do a video tutorial when I get some time on how to do that.
-
The scale pattern came from a mesh bag that some pearl onions came in, I quickly learned to carefully peel the mesh off while the paint was still wet. The surfster with the single hook swims very well, as I remember I drilled in some extra weight in the belly also. Learning as I go.
-
Produce section is a great area for netting..Box of clementines, onion bags, tomatoes on the vine all have netting that I've used for scales....
-
I suck at painting scales. period. just can't get it right.
-
That's what makes it so fun tk. That's great!
-
hey I can make kits too right :D
-
few more
-
WOW you guys humble me with some of the pics I get back!
Very nice!
-
NICE paint!
-
WOW you guys humble me with some of the pics I get back!
Very nice!
I'm gonna say that's the sweetest paint job I've seen on a plug.... Ever
-
i agree.........after seeing that paint job........i aint gona post that pic of that faux finish plug i painted..........that there is a winner
-
Here's another I got today. I know how that thing swims....wiggle wiggle SLAMMO ;D
That thing is gonna SLAY
-
SWEET....................dam thas good
-
Not kits but all Salty bodies. Thanks Scott! ;)
-
I like the blue. very very nice
-
nice stuff for sure!
-
Alot of kit pics received this week. Will try to get caught up after this show.
-
A couple of kits just started w/ the airbrush I'm getting there, but you guys are just good at what you do.I guess you learn from your mistakes.
-
GETTING THERE? YOU JUST HIT IT OUT OF THE PARK!
-
Thanks for the kind words and for making the kits available it was an adventure I wanted to try but didn't want to invest in the lathe and all. I have some more to do and I am looking forward to some of the new kits you are coming out with.
-
That 3D paint job on that popper is out of this world,
how is heck did he do that? I have to learn that technique..
-
here is a sand eel needle
(http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b164/bknapik1/Sandeelneedlefinished.jpg)
-
Nice work NJ.
-
nice its got that cucummber effect.........
-
Nother nice pic yesterday. Great stuff!
-
nice ...........njfish r these yours........colors r sweet
-
Very nice work
-
A40 Kit painted up and ready for the wiring as soon as I get the pliers.
-
Here is a 1.5 oz slim needle fish that I modified by shortening it to 6 inch length by cutting off from the front, then I slimmed it down and flattened the sides on the front from a little behind the eyes forward, I hope the second picture shows that. Then I also added 3/16 oz tail weight. It casts like a bullet and swims with a nice lazy side to side motion, can hardly wait to use it this year.
-
Here is second picture
-
nice should work
-
real nice work!
-
AHHHHH what did you do to my needle ;D
That thing says sandeel all over it.
The way you weighted that is how I do the 2 oz needle kit. Works pisser! I think you'll do well with it!
Loop knot on the front.
-
Sorry Salty
I'm just one of those people who always has to say "What if...?"
-
;D So am I but it usually ends up disastrous ;D
-
A salty popper I think I'm going to like this one for a change.
-
nice its got that cucummber effect.........
What the hell is a cucumber effect? LOL
Here are a few kits fresh off the spinner

nice plugs guys the popper is one of my favorites
-
nice plugs guys the popper is one of my favorites
Yeah I'm beginning to like these poppers very much also. I think the dannys and pencils will always be my favs though.
Can't wait to build a few bottles also, I have a few in the works(on lathe) but also want to build a few kits also to compare. Free handing the head and getting it right is a major PITA, even after you know what you need to do
-
say nj............check out saltys wobbler(jitterbug)............thats my plug of choice this spring..............a nice lite west wind........ocean has a little chop.......fishing first light.....and watching the wake of the wobbler...........sweet..........i made a bunch for my fishing buddies.........and they to were happy to see a 2.5 oz bug........we can thank salty for it

-
holy crap lookit that thing! Looks like Jimi Hendrix met lady gaga LOL
-
Wow those are amazing! ;) how did u get that smeared effect on the plug?? ???
-
hay striperman...i used marbling pigment...from mudhole tackle.. base coat your plug white........mix your two part epoxi i use flex coat
1- pour from your mix 2 nickle size spots of epoxi on a piece of foil
2- mix one spot with marbling pigment u dont need much i would say 1/8"dot of pigment and your choice of color
3- mix the other nickle size spot of epoxi with a differant color
4- now with the remaining epoxi which is clear (i like to add glitter to it).coat your plug
5- onece all coated take a tooth pick dip it into your first color and put a small dot on your plug about 1/8" and drag the color across the plug all differant directions with the pic
6- do the same with the second color... but in a differant location on the plug and using a differant pic rember to spin the plug to keep things even with no sags
7-just keep dragging the two pigments useing the tip of the toothpic until u like the effect
8-now let the plug dry the plug must spin until dry...i use a rod dryer motor to spin the plug slowly
go to YOUTUBE or WWW.MUDHOLE.COM (http://WWW.MUDHOLE.COM) for video instructions CRB MARBLING good luck :)
-
most guys do that with a bucket of water and some drops of paint. slightly mix it slowly...then dip plug and remove...
-
yea ive seen that done on a guitar body.....with a little borax added to the water
-
what does the borax do? That's a slimy soap.
Here's a scuttlebugger for you Handy.. Jose did this one. nice!
-
nice pic
-
WOW say jose did u ever think about painting bikes tanks.......sweet colors and those are show Quality..........dam i got to get better at my painting.........nice job! 8)
-
say salty!! im not sure what the borax dose..........but when i mixed it in water and then added the different colors of paint.........when the drop of paint hits the water they explode in differant directions............then i dip the guitar body in the paint and water.....submerge it then when i pull the body up the paint sticks to the guitar in differant colors... marbelizing it ..........ita a pain in the you know what..and plus u have to seal all the neck pockets and pickup cavaitys.......i did it once but didnt do it ever again.........there is a video on it
-
ok that's to break the surface tension then
-
finished a few more kits,needles & spooks.
-
I like the blue needle. The black backed spook is gonna slay fish. As will the banana one at first light. Black and red are good colors up here in the canal. Alot of guys like that color in rubber. SWEET stuff

-
say DLP those scales look so real......it looks like u can scale that plug.......but a bitch to falet nice job.............plus i like the wood mounting..........your an artist
-
rac 37..............i like to add the glitter to the mix...........u dont need much..........after i stir the twopart epoxy...........ill add a little glitter and stir it in good..............then just brush it on the plug..........and i like to spin my plug on a dryer motor slowly 8)
-
thanks handyman.i have a few kits going into the spinner this week i'll give the glitter a shot, thanks again.

-
Bruce you are a CLASS ACT.
-
finished a few poppers and a tallywhacker, useing the sanding sealer and a new batch of etex, didn't know epoxy had a self life.someone told me its the reason for the yellowing.the fishing been slow mostly these little choppers.
-
EXCELLANT STUFF RAC37 NICE COLORS :)
-
say rac37......let me know how the eel swims......i made the same thing a year or so and i just dosent swim at all.... i even took the tail off and it still dont wobbel i even bent the lip up/down.....i gave up and figured id get to it....im clueless ........i like the rubber tail as well..........im useing a bill hurley rubber sand eel...........but eel or no eel i just cant get'r to swim.................wad up salt any ideas :)
-
Handy those things swim nice. Did you put too thick of a clear on it or something? Bending the lip up is going to make it dive more, down is going to keep it on top. And I would assume you know not to tie direct it needs a loop on the front. Those things are pretty much hard to frig up?
-
im useing the small lefty 7/8x9/16.....i have the belly weight in the center of the plug and just behind the belly weight is a 2/0 hook and the plug is 1.5oz :'(
-
im heading to the ceeement pond to give it a go with the loop.....the rappala loop right..............man salt thanks for the quick responce ill let u know ciao!
-
ah! didnt work..........im gona start from scratch.......its been a long time so i couldnt tell u what i did..........thanks for the input salty
-
wait a minute what lure are you talking about?
-
look at the pics that rac37 posted the center pic has a eel looking head with rubber tail on it scroll back a page
-
that's a tallywhacker swimmer. Doesn't take a lefty 1 lip it takes a pikie 3 lip...you got WAY too small of a lip on there.
-
handyman i just took the tallywhacker and the pikiezilla down to the creek for a swim.the tally was draging tail till i took the finishing nail out,its the tailend of a 12" sluggo i think the nail gives it more action, not so for the tallywhacker, swam great once i removed the nail.i really like the way the pikie swam.i'm going to try both on the open beach once things clear up around here.
-
OH! thanks salty thats what i thought i needed to cup more water..... nice.....tallyho to the lathe thanks for you help :)
-
thanks rac37.5.......yea years ago i tried to copy a tattoo eel swimmer but ommitted half the body and added a large rubber grub in black but the thing never swam and when i saw that nice pic of that tallywacker i headed to my bone yard and pic up that same plug and headed to the ceeeement pond to see if it worked.........but thanks to you guys im on the road to recovery.........i just might have some of those lips around bill hurley tails are nice salty has them on his site ..........im heading out in the A.M. at the ungodly hour 3:30 AM....some reports of some monster blue fish in the surf in seaside park nj in Island Beach State Park caio! :)
-

RAC you can fish........nice
-
Hey handyman whats the trick with putting your logo on the lures ?
- Mark
-
hay mark!.....i use a brother P-TOUCH 1180 labler........mud hole tackle also sells small decals made in the U.S.A flag decals........ when u print out your logo take a sissor and trim close to the letters the reason for this is that the lable wont curl staples sells the printer..............mud hole tackle can also print a lable for you but it could get expensive.........one nice thing about the labler is that all the guys i fish with get there names on the plugs i make for them..........check out mud hole tackle for the made in the u.s.a.............hope this helps :)
-
had a great day today blitzs in the morning.the wind was a problem but i saw some big boys trying to get my tallywhacker in the waves.went back in the afternoon and the wind died down it was on now,the fish destroyed the tail on the tally.spent the rest of the evening using a needle.left then biting till tomorrow.

Way cool Rob. You are going to LOVE that thing. I've had two now and loved both. When you take the first highway ramp at 40-45 you'll know why ;)
-
Tell Larry Yates I said hi! Great people to deal with. Tiger is their cheif engineer, not many get to talk to him directly nowadays. Very much in demand. Many don't know it but Quigley was the one's who designed the original Dodge Ramcharger suspension if you can remember them. I believe they also had their hands in the original Jeep Quadratrac too if memory serves me correctly.
-

Nice work Handy the white blabber striping was that shot through a feather to get that look I did one in schoolbus color yellow with black stripe fogged lightly into a feather.
-
not at all i took some grizzley hackle took some flex coat rod building glue spread the glue on the plug and atached the feathers to the plug i let it dry and then applied two coats of finish...........yea my next step is to do a swimmer in the same way and paint it yellow and then add the grizzley hackle to make the school bus
-
Should make a video of this and put it up on the site. Handy those things look freakin SWEET
I got a glimmer there if you know what I mean

Take the back hook off the surfster and leave the bucktail flag on there it will swim much better.
thanks salty ill try that. Right now this plug wags like crazy on the surface, I just have to reel very sloow
-
correct if it tries to dive at all just slooow down. Those are killer lures. You will catch alot of fish on them.
-
got to agree A + and both are my favorite plugs
-
Here is my first ever build using the 3/8 micro popper kit. I had fun and definitely learned a lot. Can't wait to fish it

-
some of the 15 kits I did this month
-
sweet!!!!!! dam youve been busy
-
Wow very nice! How did you find the fit and finish on those nshorefisher? Did you encounter any issues in building these?
-
the pike-zilla was a little rough. Had some good gouges, but was able to sand them out for the most part. I'm still having a hard time with the jointeds. If you look close at the one I posted, I ended up screwing up the through wire on the tail piece, had to cut it and ended up using magnum screw eyes...lol. All my fault, just have to get better at turning tail loops. I need to post more pics. Have a bunch more to show you. The hand carved is a s$%t show for me. Never looked at the online diagram(ooops...lol), so that might not come out too great. My ONLY problem I have with your kits is that I don't have more! ;D
-
Gouges from things in the bag?
You have to practice tail loops. Watch the video I have on yootoob that is one of the easiest ways to do it.
-
not really sure....there were some spots that were splintered and had some gouges like you get from turning. No biggie though, just sanded down, and ready to roll.
-
here's some more
-
and some more
-
last one's till I finish the hand carved and pikezilla. In the last pic, it's hard to tell, but I put color shift paint(thanks nightfighter!) paint on it. It's the balls!
-
ooops. Forgot about this one. It's not with my fishing stuff, because I told my 3 yr old daughter that I made her a fishing lure, because her favorite color is pink. Well, she named her Sally, and takes her everywhere now, even to bed. So I think I should consider that one "lost" to a 25lber! lol
-
nice!!!!!
-
here's that handcarved....not the greatest, but not horible for a first time.
-
hey north shorefisher....ya got to love that swimmer......ya done good.......say not for nothin but would u belive the first swimmer i made from the salty kit with my first cast i nailed a bass right in the wash.....i thought the plug dug into the sand.......thats how close it hit......your gona love the action........i get a good lat workout when i make those
-
here she is, my final kit out of 15 that I got back in March for my bday! Time well spent. I'm really happy with this one, Pikezilla!! The paint even came out half way decent.
-
very nice!
-
It's great to have a place to share pics without having to be called a plug assembler! :( Lots of beautiful plugs in here!
Here are two of mine in action this weekend. I lost the brand new Wonderbread to to a Bluefish bite-off about 10 minutes after I caught a couple Stripers on it. The next day, I brought one from last year that I hadn't used.

Very nice Andy! Congrats on a job well done! Looks like you had a boatload of fun!
-
"It's great to have a place to share pics without having to be called a plug assembler!"
IT'S JEALOUSY that you have skills others don't. Don't ever let someone knock you for something you get fun and enjoyment out of. There's too many internet heros on fishing boards these days. SOL, SB, you name it. I dislike this look down over your eyeglasses type of view that many have of people.
It's also cliques....these guys all want to see their buddies sell plugs under the table and get a big name so if your not a member of the clique then sayonara. Wrong attitude to have. Wonder why the world is so effed up today.
-
well said scott........i couldnt agree with you more.......yea and some people think your showing off......like your the best plug builder in the world but thats realy not the case....a pic of your plug only gives the next builder some new ideas to try and to put his/her ideas into that same plug.....some people just misinterpret ther hole concept........well said my friend.......now on the otherside.....NICE!!! Andy B.......your plugs look real sweet......love the colors
-
Here! Here! Scott.... Awesome stuff Andy! Congrats!
-
Thanks a lot guys!! I'll have to go back now through my pics and see what else I have to post.
-
I thought I'd put up some kits I've done over the past 2 years. It's funny when you look back at some of them how you can pick out things you wish you could have done differently. But that's how you get better I guess. They all fish well with their imperfections though! :)

MOST excellent! You have some wicked nice painting skills Andy and prob one of the best scale patterns I've seen. Color mixes look great too!
-
Not sure what's better: your painting or camera skills. :lurk:
Awesome job!
-
Thanks guys! Just happy to have a place to share the hobby!
-
Really great stuff Andy!!! Wow! Talk about attention to detail :D

I wish I could finish my tail wraps like that ;D
Nice work!
-
yea i hear ya .....nice tail wraps again andy.......and the painting aswell
-
Thanks guys! I look back at those now and am embarrassed actually. I think the wraps came out pretty but I was adding 2 too many turns. I think I was actually pulling the nose loop into the plug and I could never get them tight enough. Now I just do 2 wraps and call it a day.
-
andy you do very nice work
-
Brand new builder here...these are my first two offerings from Salty's plug kits.
-
Looking good!
-
Wow very Unique!!!
-
nice!!!! looks like mother of pearl.......should get some attention with those for sure
-
Close, it's Abalone, in natural and ice blue. I have a bit of experience inlaying it in other applications and thought this would work too.
-
Excellent! Really creative idea. Wow, I can't believe it's almost time to take out all the tools and kits again.
-
LOL I never put mine away :)

High praise from you, I must say! Your lures are true art work. Beautiful finish to your lures.
-
So I just started using lures and decided to build my own. This is the fist one I did. Hope it will catch some fish.
-
catch anit the word....that will slay fish......thats one of the best poppers and ive caught a ton of fish on it ....pushes alot of water for sure
-
oh i forgot to mention......nice scale work.........looks good
-
Looks good. Lighten up the belly and you got a pretty good live mackerel imitation.
-
There ya go bub! Nice job! Did you use an onion bag for the scale pattern?
-
It believe it was. that or a red potato bag. i don't know which one i have been saving anything that looks like it will work. I have a question after the lure is painted do they need to be coated with epoxy or just clear coat paint. If so, which epoxy is good for a beginner to try?
-
Nice job on that popper, Firemustang1. Use the search button up top - it's your best friend for finding answers to your epoxy question. There's lots of great information and instructions on this site.
-
Here is the second one I just finished. This time I epoxied the lure after reading some post. Now I need to buy more kits.
-
nice !!! yep like we say on the forum..........................................YOUR HOOKED

-
Looking great!

Playing around with some unconventional designs now...
-
WICKED WICKED COOL!
-
Couple lady ploopers...
-
Since I don't have "that old beat up pencil that you can't get rid of because it still catches", I made myself a brand new "antique" look...
-
Brian you have some sick skills. Absolutely awesome talent.
You are thinking out of the box. The distressed pencil is effin spot on. That thing SCREAMS squid. Wicked cool idea!
-
Fantastic work!
I took some wood lure bodies, some kits and other stuff. I think that there 'is nothing better. Salty is the way!

All the way from Italy! Ciao
-
This is my first one. I tried copying a paint scheme I saw on the forum, but got carried away w/ the spots. Now it looks like a rainbow trout. I'm hopeing a snook or redfish will still want to eat it. I had fun getting it painted. Hardware & epoxy tonight.
-
Very nice. That'll get eaten...
-
Hi everyone first post done a few kits so far and wanted to stop lurking and post a pick this the tuna/gt popper went with a mahi paint job
-
That this is SICK! Nice job!
-
Thanks! Thanks for great kits
-
Made this one for my pilot buddy.
-
My first kits
-
MAD skills! Great color combinations and LOVE the scuttlebugger!
-
Thin your epoxy a little more with denatured alcohol and put it on thin. It will stop the distortion you see in some of those. They look most excellent!
-
Thanks Salty i will
-
This is my 2nd kit, the Micro-spook. The hooks are #1 trebles, they seem sorta big. Does Saltys sell a "short shank 2/0 siwash? Also, what do people do about the gap between belly and bushing? Should I have sanded belly flat where bushing sits? Thanks!
-
#1 hook should fit well on these, one thing I've done and don't usually recommend is to cut the belly hook and open to attach directly to the swivel, it gets the hook a bit closer to the body. 3/0 siwash is the smallest we stock, I would not recommend this hook on this lure though. Some people will bend the grommet very slightly, you can take a piece of wood and drill it with a large drill then use it to "peen" the grommet flat, or you can recess, or leave as is.
-
I call the blurple Saturday Night Fever and a Rat with hurley tail.
-
slammin! You will do well with those!
-
Thank u Salty. I hope so
-
Wow havent posted here in a long time. Love to see the pics of what people do. Charlie hit this out of the PARK :bhappy:
