Is it ok to use polyurethane as the undercoat?
« on: April 16, 2012, 04:59:28 AM »
Hello a question from a new plug maker.

We just got a few plugs and are going to use vacation week to make some really great "Saltys" plugs.  With this weather heating up it is sure getting good for fishing.  My nephews are coming over this morning, we were going to do some undercoating, is poly ok to substitute? I see linseed oil and varnish are the preferred, should we go out and get some?  We have 4 gal of good poly and would like to find a good use for it. Thanks 2Fly

polyurethane is typically not used in water contact environments. I don't know if it will work I've not ever tried it. You can sure try.....tell us how it works if you do use it.
