Hey guys.  What is the best size of Siwash hooks to use?  Also, what's the deal with the sickle shaped siwash hooks?  Are they better?

Salty

You want to size the hook to the lure. There isn't necessarily a "best" size. It depends on what it's going on. The sickle shaped hooks are circle hooks and are not the same. While I've seen people put those on plugs before those are designed for use with bait chunking so the fish can pickup the bait then run away, the circle hook typically puts the hookset in the corner of the mouth. I would not use these on lures.

Thx Salty.  I was hoping there was a middle ground on the hooks that would work for most of them.  Well, know its time to go into the evil lair and take inventory of the plugs I have, so I can match up via web site.  Also, thx for the explanation on the sickle hooks.

I agree with Handyman for 4/0 and 5/0 for most of my topwaters. Another thing is add two to the size of the treble. If 1/0 use a 3/0 or 4/0 depending on the plug.

Would you guys suggest open ended trebles for the belly?
