I hate to admit it, but maybe they have a point - one of my most memorable days on the water came a few Octobers ago, when I was entertained by an 8-pound brown trout belting out a soulful version of "Old Man River." Not to mention the fact that unlike the snooty false albacore, hickory shad will usually give you the correct time if asked politely. As long as the folks at PETA are paying for it, they can put up all the memorials they want. And when they're finished with that, they can motor down here and hold a candlelight vigil for the 5000 fruit flies I exterminated this past summer. And God only knows how many of the fiddler crabs in my back yard perished in yesterday's storm, all because I refused them refuge in my kitchen. Guess I'm an even worse sonofabitch than I thought.
